Game Day Foods
When the Chiefs won the finals in the Playoffs on January 28, 2024, Kansas City Chief fans were ecstatic. The Chiefs were proving to us time and time again that they are the best team in the game right now. For the fourth time in five years, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to the Superbowl and seem to be unstoppable. This year the Superbowl is scheduled for February 11, 2024, which gives Chiefs fans a week and a half to prepare for game night. Fans from the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs are both thrilled to see this historic game. However, when hosting a watch party, the star of the show is always food and beverages. So I made an essential Superbowl game spread for beginners so you wouldn’t have to. This list consists of an appetizer, two main dishes, and a dessert to represent a perfect Superbowl game day spread. Mrs. Miller from Bonner Springs High School said “I like buffalo chicken, chili, cornbread, and soup whenever I go to my mom’s house for a football game”.
Spinach Artichoke Dip
Homemade spinach artichoke may not be a staple Superbowl food however, artichoke dip possesses the perfect amount of savory and saltiness. Well-made artichoke dip is creamy and packs a punch being paired with chips or naan bread. This dish is perfect for cold and warm weather because artichoke dip can be eaten hot or cold. Not to mention it’s a beginner-friendly last-minute dish that doesn’t contain a substantial amount of calories. Chip and Dip is a classic appetizer to start the evening because it’s not too heavy. If made correctly this dish will most definitely be a fan-favorite in your household on Superbowl Sunday.
Baked Chicken Wings & Blue Cheese Dip
Chicken Wings have been a football staple since 1979 when the first sports bar opened its doors, and are still loved by Americans decades later. NPR wrote an article in 2013 stating “The magical pairing of humongous athletes and itty-bitty chicken parts began decades ago.” Chicken wings possess a nostalgic feel from Sunday afternoon cookouts and bring comfort when paired with warm BBQ sauce. However, I wanted to put a twist on a plain dish by adding an iconic blue cheese dip. Blue Cheese Dip goes especially well with spicy wings because it desensitizes the spice and can be eaten in an assortment of ways.
Ultimate Loaded Nachos
What do you eat at a Chiefs game? Whenever I attended a Chief’s game, I got nachos made with salty chips and warm cheese sauce. Nachos are an irresistible food whether they have a million toppings or just one. Don’t get me wrong concession stand nachos were delicious in a pinch but homemade nachos are undoubtedly superior. Creativity is unlimited for making nachos but people usually add ground beef, cheese, jalapenos, and tomatoes. Additionally, this dish is perfect for picky children and it’s easily accessible for a large crowd. If you are a busy person this is a perfect appetizer or main dish on a time crunch.
Football Oreo Truffles
Football Oreo Truffles are the perfect last-minute desserts to end off a Superbowl night and I’ll explain why. Previous foods you ate earlier in the day were most likely heavily salty, savory, or carb-heavy. On the other hand, our delicious chocolate treat satisfies your urge for sweetness while also being light and airy. Oreo Truffles have a sweet but creamy texture because of the delicious combination of cream cheese and Oreos. After being frozen the balls are shaped into footballs, tossed in warm chocolate sauce, and stored in the refrigerator before serving. This dessert will surely leave guests satisfied after a long game.
Short Summary
Food plays a central role in bringing people together as a way to stay connected, learn more about each other, and celebrate events. Whether you live in a first or third-world country, sharing a meal is the most communal thing in all corners of the world. That’s exactly why the Superbowl is such a conjoint event, people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds come to watch one game every year. Food not only fuels your body but also creates special memories with close friends and family. With football increasing in popularity hopefully, families will continue to cook delicious home-cooked meals instead of fast food. The Baking & Pastry teacher from Bonner Springs High School believes “ I wish everybody could realize everything you eat out is terrible for you.”
