Guinness World Records has been around since 1955, having sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Over the years, tens of thousands of world records have been broken, from tallest to tiniest, oldest to youngest, and everything in between.
Among the records out there, there are the normal ones you would expect, like the tallest man, longest hair, and oldest animal. But, with so many records in existence, there are many rare and strange ones, too. This article will cover ten of the weirdest and most specific Guinness World Records.
Most Robots Dancing Simultaneously
Yes. This record exists. I’ve never seen even one robot dancing in person, let alone over a thousand. That’s what the record is, though – 1,372 little robots dancing at the same time. It was achieved by TIM S.p.A. in Rome, Italy, on February 1st, 2018. Watch the video below for more information and to see the dance party in action:
Largest Display of Origami Elephants
This is definitely an oddly specific world record. However, there was a method to the madness, a reason behind it. The display was created by the Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo in New York City, on November 17th, 2016, to raise awareness for elephant conservation. The record-breaking display consisted of 78,564 paper elephants of many different colors.
Most Big Macs Eaten in a Lifetime
McDonald’s’ Big Mac burger is very popular and well-liked, but one man holds the record for the most eaten in one lifetime. As of January 1st of this year, Donald Gorske has eaten 33,400 Big Macs. In an interview with Guinness, he describes himself as a Big Mac enthusiast, and shares that he is blessed with a high metabolism and good health to be able to eat cheeseburgers every day and survive. Read more of Donald’s story here.
Largest Collection of Hamburger Related Items
Speaking of hamburgers, another man holds the record for owning the most hamburger themed items. Harry Sperl, aka Hamburger Harry, has a collection of 3,724 items all about hamburgers. This record was achieved back in 2014, so Hamburger Harry could have even more items now.
Largest Collection of Traffic Cones
Another large collection, this time of only traffic cones, is owned by David Morgan in the UK. He owns 137 total traffic cones, including cones from about two thirds of all types ever made. Just like the hamburger collection, this record is dated, having been achieved in April of 2000. Over 20 years later, the collection could be twice the size!
Most Slices of Carrots Sliced While Blindfolded in 30 Seconds
This record title – that really rolls off the tongue – is held by chef Hirouyki Terada. The Miami restaurant owner chopped 88 slices on FOX’s “The F Word with Gordon Ramsay” on 12 July 2017. Watch this impressive feat in the video here.
Greatest Distance Traveled With a Pool Cue Balanced on Chin
Here’s another extremely specific record. Not only does it involve a pool cue, but the pool cue has to be on your chin. This record was achieved by David Rush on August 15th, 2017. He traveled 3,300 m (10,826 ft. 9 in.) with a pool cue on his chin the whole time.
Youngest Gamer to Achieve a Perfect Score on Dance Dance Revolution
Most people have probably played Dance Dance Revolution on occasion at an arcade, and they probably haven’t achieved a perfect score. One person, however, reached a perfect “AAA” rating – the highest score – on “expert” difficulty. Ryota Wada was only nine years old at the time. He broke the record on August 29th, 2010, and to this day, the record has yet to be beat.
Fastest 10 m Traveled Carrying a Table and Weight in the Mouth
On June 18th, 2009, Georges Christen ran 10 meters (about 33 feet) in 6.57 seconds. That doesn’t sound like much, until you learn that he was carrying a table – a table that also had a person on top of it – with just his mouth.
Most Consecutive Stairs Climbed While Balancing a Person on the Head
This record was a two person feat. One person had to be the climber, while the other one had to stay balanced on the climber’s head. On December 23rd, 2021, brothers Giang Quoc Nghiep and Giang Quoc Co broke this record, climbing up a total of 100 stairs. They first achieved this record in 2016 with 90 stairs, were beaten 2 years later with 97 stairs, then rebroke it in 2021. Watch the video of the climb below:
