As we enter September, fall sports begin to become more serious. We are now almost a month into the fall sports season. Football, cross country, girls’ golf, boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis, and volleyball are all in action, with their seasons starting practice on August 14.
The first sports event to start off the season was girls’ volleyball. They had their first game at Shawnee Heights, a tri consisting of Shawnee Height and Saint Thomas Aquinas on August 28. The girls now have had 12 matches and continue to improve with each match. The team is led by seniors Mckenzie Campbell and Addison Hassett, this is the 4th season for each of them on the volleyball team.
The girls’ tennis team had their first tournament on September 2, with six schools of very tough competition. Senior Autumn Ashford placed first for number two singles and senior Penelope Kline placed fifth for number one singles. Our girls continue to place highly in their tournaments throughout the month.
The cross-country team had their first meet of the season at Wyco Park, on August 31. Two of our girl runners took home medals, senior Seraphim Peel and sophomore Cora Dow. The runners have all been dropping times as the season progresses.
Our football team had their first game of the year at Springhill, on September 1. We, unfortunately, did not come home with a win but our team continues to keep fighting.
The girls golf team had their first tournament of the season at Ottawa High School, on August 28. Senior Abby Schram placed 12th and sophomore Chole Barber placed 13th. The girls have been placing very well with each tournament that passes.
Our boy’s soccer team had their first game of the season at Ottawa High School, on August 29. We, unfortunately, did not win, although we have a chance to make up for it when we play Ottawa for the second time this Thursday, September 14th. Our team is led by seniors Kenny Grimm and Angelo Giron. They currently have 2-2 on the season. The boy’s JV soccer team is also having a great season, they are currently undefeated after five competitive games.
Overall all of our teams have had a great season so far. Although we are only halfway through the season, we can not wait to see how our teams will improve throughout their seasons!
